Arizona business community: Rent control would further deepen housing shortage

Business leaders statewide are letting it be known that Democratic efforts to initiate rent control on both the state and federal level are the last thing anyone needs right now in the midst of a housing shortage. Arizona Multifamily Association President and CEO Courtney Gilstrap LeVinus said rent control stymies development and results in fewer options for lower-income renters. Danny Seiden, head of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry, echoed her comments, saying rent control decreases housing supply. As always, removing roadblocks to building is the only thing that will increase supply and help soften high costs.
