Recent Increase in Multifamily Housing Regulation Across Nation
In recent years, the housing industry has faced increased regulation with regards to rent control, housing fees, tenant screening, and other aspects related to multifamily and rental housing. Across the country, there are currently 213 active bills related to rent control, according to the NAA’s State Legislative Tracker. This includes Washington HB 2114, which aims to implement a 7% cap on rent increases statewide, and a California ballot measure that would remove exemptions from the state’s existing rent control laws for single-family homes and multifamily units built after Feb. 1, 1995. Additionally, there are hundreds more bills and proposals addressing a wide range of housing-related topics.
