Could the end of rent control be near? Although this article aims to vilify property owners small and large who want to remove regulations, it also notes that the U.S. Supreme Court is consdering whether to hear one or more of five challenges to New York’s rent control law this month. Although it’s upheld rent control before, in 1992, over 30 states subsequently passed laws banning it, and a new makeup of justices might just turn the tide on a federal level. One major omission in this lengthy tome is the fact that rent control has been proven not to work in supplying affordable housing to the masses.
