State of Arizona housing: Here’s a look at the numbers

The 2020 U.S. Census figures show Arizona’s housing units grew 8.3 perent since 2010, with more than 3 million added. Maricopa County in particular had one of the biggest growth spurts in the nation during that time, adding more than 1.8 million units for a 10.6 percent surge. However, other counties had more modest or even negative growth. The rate of home ownership in Arizona in 2020 was 65.3 percent — slightly higher than the national rate of 63.1 percent — but declined in most areas of the state and nation. And the number of vacant homes declined slightly to 12.2 percent, down 4.1 percentage points from a decade earlier.
