Multiple high-rise apartment towers in the works for downtown Tempe. Projects will alter city skyline

Tempe is gung-ho on adding housing density to its downtown, with five new infill high-rises planned east of Mill Avenue near University Drive. Some on the city’s Design Review Committee lamented a lack of character among some of the projects and raised the usual questions about traffic, but others pointed out that the downtown is the ideal place to add density because it’s walkable and allows access to public transit.
