Mesa General Hospital demolished for 180-unit apartment complex

Mesa Drive Apartments could add 180 apartments on the site of the former Mesa General Hospital, which was closed in 2008, leaving a blighted parcel. Developers held numerous meetings with the public to ensure it will fit well with the neighborhood, and area residents—concerned with homeless encampments and vandalism—seem willing to embrace new neighbors. One said he didn’t want the project “walled off” from the area and hopes to invite the apartment residents to neighborhood events. The City Council might vote on the rezoning in August.
