Dominium pitches new project for S. Chandler
After hundreds of neighbors vehemently opposed an housing complex in south Chandler that would offer 336 units with below-market-rate rents, developer Dominium switched gears and proposed a project that includes 282 senior living units and two light industrial buildings. The original plan would have brought desperately needed units for people such as teachers, firefighters, service workers and more, but uninformed NIMBYs fearing supposed “Section 8” residents shot it down. Dominium said senior housing would quell concerns about more traffic and additional children in schools. Because the parcel is on a county island, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has the final say on whether to rezone it.
