Council denies affordable housing grant

NIMBYs struck again, this time out in Wickenburg as they strong-armed the Town Council into shooting down an affordable housing project that would have provided 208 apartments. Some speakers noted it’s particularly tough to staff schools, hospitals and health care services because workers can’t afford to live there. Gorman & Co. was eligible for $10 million in grants and had an agrement with the landowner to build the housing, but “residents who live near the proposed site spoke against the hurried timeline, the size and density of the complex and the traffic that would come as a result,” as per usual.
