Buckeye development is rising quickly. But not all residents are backing the changes
Despite its official pro-development stance, Buckeye has its own crop of NIMBYs hoping to shout down any new housing in their midst. Although the city council approved annexing and rezoning 19.4 acres of land for rental homes, residents trotted out all of the usual anti-building bogeymen, including noise (even though it’s near Luke Air Force Base, it’s not a violation of state law to develop there), more kids in the schools (although more kids would bring more tax dollars), traffic (even though the city is already planning to improve roads in anticipation of more residents), water supply, and the fact that people in the area own livestock—a curious objection also raised among some East Valley NIMBYs.
