Housing crisis may provoke Phoenix zoning code changes
Phoenix is considering seven text amendments to ease restrictions in zoning in order to provide more affordable and workforce housing. Some overlap bills currently in the legislature, such as the move to allow accessory dwelling units with cooking facilities. Other amendments would reduce minimum lot sizes for mobile home parks and parking space requirements for multifamily projects. Some of these could go before the city council by July; others may not be heard until September. During a hearing about the changes, the cityās Assistant Housing Director, Aubrey Gonzalez, said, that building new market-rate housing will help free up affordable units for workforce housing.
