Why Isn’t the Government Doing More About the Housing Crisis?

Why Isn’t the Government Doing More About the Housing Crisis?

Our nation’s housing crisis, according to this article, partly rests on the lack of a national policy and little being done on a federal level to increase the housing supply. State and local governments and homeowner’s associations halt development, keep single-family zoning in place and prioritize “the aesthetics of buyers over the needs of renters.” Also, it provides novel ideas for increasing the housing supply, such as giving federal incentives to places that update zoning and building codes to spur development. And to provide affordable housing for all, it states plainly, “[T]he federal government needs to spend more on housing, particularly on multifamily rental housing.”
