Speaker-Elect Toma Files 1487 Complaint After City of Tucson Forbids Consideration of Source of Income on Rental Housing Applications

Tucson, Arizona, USA downtown skyline with Sentinel Peak at dusk. (Mountaintop “A” for “Arizona”)

Incoming Arizona House Speaker Ben Toma, R-Peoria, filed a complaint with the state attorney general asking the office to determine whether a nutty Tucson law that forbids property owners from considering tenants’ source of income when they apply to rent violates the law and the state constitution. It’s basically a way to force owners to accept Section 8 vouchers. Toma says the blame should be placed on Tucson’s backward policies and regulations for a lack of safe and affordable housing options, not on people providing housing.
