Some employers consider offering help with housing payments

To help address attract and retain talent, a quarter of employers say they’re thinking about giving housing assistance as part of employees’ benefits packages this year according to a survey by JW Surety Bonds. A quarter of employees, meanwhile, say they might jump to a new job for the perk. Half of renters in the U.S. spend more than 30 percent of their income on rent, and almost one in three surveyed said they’d prefer housing assistance over a pay raise. The average amount employers are looking to give is $6,201 per employee annually. Some employers, like Elon Musk and Google, also are becoming developers to ensure their people have a place to live.
