After about 100 residents complained at a public meeting, Clarkdale punted on a rezoning request that could add at least 139 single-family and 144 multifamily homes near State Route 89A, Cement Plant Road and Clarkdale Parkway. If the town ultimately approves it, NIMBYs are preparing for a referendum fight. The article didn’t note that Clarkdale is situated between the tourist meccas of Jerome and Cottonwood and in the Verde Valley wine country, which is in dire need of service workers to keep their shops, hotels, wineries and more afloat.
