Amid Arizona housing shortage, a new fight for affordable apartments launches

The Arizona Multihousing Association welcomes the news that the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties is jumping into the fray to advocate for more housing development in the state. The NAIOP, a commercial real estate development association with over 21,000 members across the country, has seen Arizona’s affordability erode and hopes to increase the amount of attainable housing. “Our objective is to work collaboratively with city governments to find solutions that will meet the growing need for housing options that are attainable for essential workers such as teachers, nurses and first responders,” said said Suzanne Kinney, president and CEO of NAIPO. The group said it will help developers oppose stereotypes concerning multifamily housing including the unfounded fears around traffic, safety and neighborhood character.
