374 apartments, retail eyed for S. Chandler site
A parcel in Chandler at Arizona Avenue and Queen Creek Road that was once slated to be the site of the city’s first mall could be the site of 374 market-rate apartments if the city rezones it from commercial to mixed-use. The developer is holding neighborhood meetings for input and already made changes to the plan in response, including not putting four-story buildings near Arizona Avenue and creating underground parking instead of an above-ground garage. It’s also willing to create turn lanes to address traffic concerns. The next step is a Planning and Zoning review, after which it could move on to the city council.
