Phoenix City Council approves 1,890 more apartment units in midtown

Phoenix City Council recently unanimously rubber-stamped rezoning for 1,890 apartments in midtown. Petree Properties Inc. got approval to build 1,500 units and ground-floor retail on 15 acres on the northwest corner of Central and Glenrosa. RAS Developments got the go-ahead to rezone a 1.7-acre parcel at Central Avenue and Coolidge Street for a seven-story apartment building with 155 units and commercial/retail space. Nearby at Third Avenue and Coolidge Street, Trinsic Residential Group is constructing 250 units on three acres. Another 1,450 apartments are planned for Central Avenue and Indian School Road if the city grants a zoning change, which looks likely. Several neighbors spoke in favor of the Petree project, a refreshing difference from so much of the NIMBY opposition in suburban cities.
