High-rise apartments, proposed east of ASU Tempe campus, could displace popular sports bar
Developers plan to raze the Devil’s Advocate sports bar and build 539 luxury apartments in a pair of high-rise towers near Rural Road and University Drive with 7,300 square feet of retail and restaurant space. Given the abundance of sports bars in Tempe and the Valley in general and the fact that more restaurant space will be included in the project, this seems like a good trade. It will also add density to the city outside of downtown and Tempe Town Lake that’s just a two-minute walk to light rail and bring highly amenitized housing to the fast-growing Novus Innovation Corridor that includes offices, hotels and sports facilities. A hearing is scheduled for Sept. 7.
