Council OKs 417-unit Ahwatukee apartment complex
In a series of actions that stand firmly on the side of helping the housing crisis, Phoenix City Council voted to rezone a parcel of land in Ahwatukee so that 417 apartments can be built on it. After a unanimous recommendation by the Planning Commission and a 6-2 vote by the Ahwatukee Foothills Village Planning Committee, the door is now open for the developer to raze two nearly empty office buildings on 14.3 acres and supply luxury housing just off of the I-10 freeway at Chandler Boulevard. Two area NIMBYs wrote letters complaining not only about more traffic but also whining about potentially crowded restaurants.
