Arizona Is Not Running Out of Water or Workers
Danny Seiden, president and CEO of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry, penned this response to an earlier misleading (to put it diplomatically) article in the same publication that warned against investing in Arizona. Seiden points to the state’s resurgence as a manufacturing leader, in large part due to its “many competitive advantages, such as our rapidly growing skilled labor force, top-notch universities and community colleges, modern transportation infrastructure, and a favorable low-cost business environment.” He also touts Arizona’s water stewardship as a positive that will ensure long-term vitality. Although Phoenix has six times the population and 22 times the economy of 1957, it’s doing just fine in terms of water supply. And there’s no moratorium on housing here: 80,000 new homes are in the works with more to come because many of our largest cities aren’t affected by cutbacks to groundwater supply.
