Although a nationwide recession could hit in mid-2024, one expert says Arizona will weather the storm despite its ongoing housing crisis. George Hammond, an economics professor and director of the Economic and Business Research Center at the University of Arizona, said at a recent luncheon that solid job, income and sales gains will outweigh the fact that only 24.9 percent of homes sold in Phoenix in Q3 of 2023 were affordable for families earning the national median income.
