Valley city proposes incentives to support growth of affordable housing

Glendale has 1,306 units of affordable housing in the pipeline, but none of the developers can start or complete them due the usual party crashers – inflation (including rising material costs), supply chain issues and labor shortages. To try to move things along, the city will consider waiving development fees and giving grants. Arizona needs nearly 144,000 affordable units for extremely low-income renters; Glendale is particularly squeezed, with median household income sitting 17 percent lower than the county’s as a whole.
