 Texas Considers Bill To Privatize the Business of Issuing Building Permits

The formerly breezy construction permit system in Dallas has slowed to a crawl because in-person approvals were halted during COVID and a new online system was a nightmare, causing thousands of permits to back up. Now, the Texas legislature is looking to get things moving again with a bill that would let applicants hire a third party to review and sign off on permits. This is just one way Texas is hoping to make it even easier and less costly for developers. Another bill would reduce minimum lot sizes to 1,400 square feet, and another would allow accessory dwelling units.
