Tempe Mayor Corey Woods says going vertical could be solution to affordable housing
In an interview with KTAR, Corey Woods, the mayor of Tempe, championed putting more units on smaller plots of land in order to meet the growing population demand. Tempe already has approved plenty of multifamily development around its downtown and approved an initiative in 2021 to set aside 50 percent of permitting fees for workforce and affordable housing. But as available land fills in, Woods notes it’ll be necessary to redevelop existing space.
