Split Surprise council vote delays development

Surprise City Council deadlocked 3-3 on a vote amending a proposed housing
development to decrease lot sizes to 45 feet wide — which would add 103 homes —
and increase open space. In an astonishing lack of awareness of how many families
would love to be able to purchase any home, one councilor voiced concerns about the
lack of room for backyard pools and shortage of parking near parks in the proposed
neighborhood. Others brought up the old trope of traffic, with one resident concerned
about existing homeowners not being able to ride their horses.
