Sky Harbor changes tune on Tempe Coyotes project after months of airport pushback

After a year of staunchly opposing a development in Tempe that would include nearly 2,000 apartments along with a hockey arena and entertainment district, Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport finally backed off. The airport even had resorted to sending 100,000 flyers to homes throughout the East Valley warning them the development might result in flight path changes that would cause excessive noise in their areas. But after Tempe called for a special election—and the Arizona Coyotes also agreed to concessions, including defending the airport against any noise complaints by new residents of the site—Sky Harbor officials gave their blessing.
