Sedona City Council is spending $20 million of taxpayer money to buy the 41-acres Sedona Cultural Park along with $1.5 million for a lot along Shelby Drive in hopes of building affordable housing. Developers have long wanted to put a hotel or convention center on the Cultural Park site, but the sellers donated $6.7 million and the city will pony up the rest to make sure development includes housing and won’t block the famous views of the red rocks.
