Residents rip 130-home rental project in Gilbert

Developer T.K. Stratton is seeking a minor General Plan amendment and rezone of the land, consisting of four parcels belonging to the Reber Family. (T.K. Stratton)

Gilbert residents vowed to fight a developer seeking a minor General Plan amendment in Gilbert to create a high-end rental community of 130 rental homes with amenities and open space. In typical form with absolutely no facts to back them, they complained about potential crime, traffic and impact on property values while also raising concerns about rental neighbors being able to see into their yards. Their litany of gripes included a totally unfounded paranoia that the project would morph from desirable units for working professionals into “Section 8” housing in no time. And in a new twist, they also commented that nearby tenants might complain about the noise from their chickens and other farm animals. Some residents urged the developer to build single-family and even custom homes on large lots on the parcel instead.
