Proposed House bill would expedite building permit processing, clearing the way for more housing construction
Arizona House of Representatives Speaker Ben Toma, R-Peoria, introduced a bill to speed up the process of obtaining building permits, which could help spur more housing construction in the state. House Bill 2879 would require cities and towns to complete permit reviews within 60 days, instead of the current 120-day requirement. The bill would also allow developers to obtain permits from third-party inspectors, rather than relying solely on city or town staff. Toma says this will help the state address the housing crisis and cost of living by removing some burdens from developers.
