POVERTY WITH A VIEW: Since 10-year housing plan passed in Flagstaff, what work has been done?
Flagstaff’s 10-year housing plan that passed in 2022 centers on creating or preserving 7,976 housing units by 2031 — at least 10% of which will be affordable. Unsurprisingly, as with most public projects, it’s proving to be more difficult, expensive and time-consuming than expected, and funding is an ongoing sticking point. However, a beacon of hope in the bureaucratic bundle is that the city has been working with a consultant to review codes and regulations that could be altered to make development easier and cheaper.
