Phoenix considers dropping permit fees for low-income housing developers
Phoenix City Council will discuss the possibility of following neighbor Glendale in removing city fees from any housing project that receives a state tax credit for affordable housing. Councilwoman Debra Stark wants the city to budget $2 million for the effort, which she says would incentivize building. Among the 20 low-income projects currently in the pipeline for the city, the average review and permit fees run $300,000 but can climb up to about $1 million.
