Phoenix-area evictions climb in January, but new legislation could help renters
More than half of metro Phoenix renters are “cost-burdened,” which means they pay more than the recommended 30% of their income toward rent.
Two bills have been introduced at the state Capitol to help. Senate Bill 1178 would limit the late fees that property owners can charge. House Bill 2921 would require property owners to notify residents who are at risk of eviction about legal help.
