Phoenix apartments need fewer parking spaces from now on. Here’s why
After a contentious few months, Phoenix City Council reduced mandatory parking requirements for some apartment communities. The city floated the idea to cut costs for development, which would make rents more affordable, and to encourage public transit, which is environmentally friendly. But it backpedaled after an uproar from residents. Now, the policy has been watered down to apply only to areas downtown, near light rail and in communities for senior or vaguely defined “special needs” populations.
