New Arizona law could hurt the evicted tenants it claims to help

A new law that went into effect in September seals records of evictions that are decided in favor of the tenant or dismissed so it doesn’t hurt a renter’s chances of finding housing for years to come. While the law still allows for aggregate data to be shared, individual renters may not get the real-time help they need in terms of legal assistance or rental support. Yet it still lets tenant screening companies pull data in real time, meaning an eviction filing may stay on someone’s record even if it’s later sealed.
