Neighbors fight 4-story Phoenix apartment plan that is set for council vote

Neighbors of a proposed four-story Phoenix apartment complex in the middle of Camelback East Village are fighting the development, which could be as close as 5 feet from houses.
A zoning change for the development planned for the northeast corner of 21st Street and Turney Avenue goes to a Phoenix City Council vote Wednesday, Jan. 22. It calls for 64 apartments on a nearly two-acre site.
Neighbors say the project does not follow the city’s general plan for the area, which does not have an infill designation.
Most neighbors fighting the development want a shorter building with fewer apartments that’s not as close to existing houses. The site previously had a single-story apartment complex and two houses.
