‘It can impact anyone’: Experts, community members discuss need for affordable housing

“Finding Home,” a storytelling and educational event hosted by The Arizona Republic, included several speakers who shared their experiences with the state’s housing crisis. An additional 270,000 units are needed in the state to meet demand, and 44 percent of renters in Maricopa County are cost-burdened. Speakers also addressed racial bias, exclusionary practices (NIMBYism), affordable housing and supporting pro-housing candidates and elected officials and nonprofits that promote housing affordability are ways to combat the crisis.
