How to solve Arizona’s housing shortage, which has reached crisis levels

This opinion offers a list of bipartisan solutions to the state’s housing crisis. Although produced for the Common Sense Institute, it’s remarkably similar to the Housing Supply Study Committee report released in December 2022. Solutions include: expediting zoning and approval processes, letting the state Housing department grade cities on development in order to obtain new state funding, developing statewide zoning definitions to allow for more transparency for developers, forming local “Housing Opportunity Zones” to help compensate developers in certain areas, and helping cities fund more affordable housing, possibly via a statewide grant program.
