Goodyear City Council approves controversial apartment complex

NIMBYs in Goodyear tried to hijack a plan to rezone 11 acres on the southwest corner of Estrella Parkway and Van Buren Street to multifamily use, which would provide 284 apartments. They trotted out the usual baseless complaints of potential noise, traffic, school crowding and impacts on property values. One resident, obviously oblivious to the persistent need for more housing, actually “questioned the need for another” apartment complex because the city already has so many. The city council swatted away the concerns and approved Leon Capital’s rezoning request.
