E. Mesa Sears site could house 254 apartments

The owner of the land on which a shuttered Sears store sits at Superstition Springs in east Mesa submitted preliminary paperwork to develop garden-style apartments comprising seven three-story buildings. Turning retail into housing and mixed-use projects isn’t novel — see Metrocenter Mall and Paradise Valley Mall – but it’s unclear if this plan will see support from Councilman Kevin Thompson, who represents the district and has opposed other residential “encroachment.”
