Developer: Hotel re-use will enliven east Ahwatukee
Scottsdale developer Caliber is planning to convert a sagging hotel on a blighted block of land into a chi-chi resort-style rental complex with 184 units just off of the I-10 and Elliot Road in Ahwatukee Foothills. The Four Points by Sheraton Phoenix South Mountain sits on a county island, so it only needs approval from the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors—not the city or local planning committee, which is stalling an office conversion a few miles away—and looks like it’ll get the OK. The development is innovative in that it will repurpose the six-story hotel block into studio and one-bedroom apartments and build 84 one-and two-bedroom residential units in two- and three-floor buildings with amenities like yards, patios and garages.
