Commission airs concern about Cooley Station plan
A developer is asking Gilbert to rezone about 13 acres at Williams Field and Recker roads to fit the original vision of the Cooley Station master plan so it can build 612 apartments. The town’s planning commission raised a number of concerns, including the impact on schools and loss of commercial space, and they quibbled over details like the amount of glass on ground-floor spaces. At the same meeting, they discussed a mixed-use plan for a hotel, commercial and 358 apartments, and complained about the aesthetics of apartment buildings looking like “Lego building blocks.”
