Citizen housing work group calls for code changes

At a public meeting on April 19, Sedona’s Citizen Work Group on Housing falt-out stated that more housing isn’t possible within current zoning and land use parameters. One of the members outlined six strategies for addressing its housing crisis, including reconsidering maximum building heights, creating redevelopment zones, up-zoning existing districts, and allowing smaller lot sizes or lot splitting, flexible design standards and more diverse housing types. She noted that workforce housing would require smaller lots, less parking and more diverse, sustainable housing options to be affordable. The group supports co-housing, duplexes, prefabricated housing and apartment buildings to close the gap of 1,620 units needed in Sedona.
