CG mayor decries bill cutting local housing control

Casa Grand Mayor Craig McFarland is not a fan of the Arizona Starter Home Act, which aims to repeal some local restrictions on housing—including design, architecture setbacks, shared walls, mandatory homeowners associations and more—to make it easier and more cost-effective to provide affordable homes. Planning and Development Director Paul Tice said the bill is “the scariest one” he’s seen and added he’s not sure if planning and development rules are driving up the cost of housing (despite scores of research showing this is, in fact, the case).
