CBRE Says Renting Will Remain Cheaper Than Buying

According to CBRE, mortgage payments are projected to exceed rental costs for at least the next five years. With mortgage payments rising by 75% since late 2019, the gap between owning and renting has widened persistently. CBRE forecasts a modest 2.8% annual growth in multifamily rents over the next five years, while elevated mortgage rates are expected to discourage homeowners from moving. With that said, renters will continue to face significant obstacles when trying to transition into homeownership.
