The average new home in 2022 sells for over half a million dollars, with less than 3
percent of new homes costing under $200,000. Courtney LeVinus, CEO of the the
Arizona Multihousing Association, says this is because cities have prioritized bigger
homes on large lots, which exacerbated the housing crisis by pricing people out. She
calls for less regulation so developers can build more affordable homes.
