Arizona Limits Construction Around Phoenix as Its Water Supply Dwindles
State officials say they’ll put the brakes on building new homes in some areas where there isn’t enough groundwater. Phoenix and other big cities eventually could see limits on homes that rely on groundwater as well but the hardest-hit areas will be on the outskirts of the Valley, where homes tend to be more affordable, including Queen Creek. However, commercial buildings and factories aren’t being limited, and the article didn’t directly address multifamily projects. But the water issue is certain to stall some growth, keep prices out of reach for many would-be home buyers and worsen the housing crisis.
