Arizona housing affordability reform is about to have its moment

This opinion piece by Gilbert resident and economist and housing price scholar Kevin Erdmann delves into the bipartisan efforts nationwide to solve the housing crisis with zoning reforms. He laments “arbitrary and outdated” maps, oversight panels that unnecessarily drag out projects for years and public meetings that attract NIMBYs might finally be winding down thanks to legislation in many states from Arizona to Florida. Here in Arizona, several bills are working their way through the process that would make it easier to provide housing. Essentially, saying “no” to new development leads to the proliferation of homelessness and tents, which is finally causing a break in the logjam of opposition.
