Arizona has one of the worst homelessness crises in the nation, federal data shows

The number of people in Arizona sleeping on the street, in cars and other places not meant for sleeping increased an eye-popping 23 percent from 2020 to 2022, even though nationally, that number was up less than 1 percent over the same time span. More than 13,000 people are experiencing homelessness now in the state, likely because the housing supply here hasn’t kept up with demand. Various experts and leaders are calling for revamping zoning laws to ease the burdens on developers.
