Arizona bill prohibits dog breed restrictions at multifamily properties
A bill in the Arizona Senate would stop landlords from restricting certain dog breeds in their properties. Courtney Gilstrap LeVinus, CEO of the Arizona Multihousing Association, noted that insurance companies often set those limits and this could leave owners without coverage or could make coverage extremely expensive. Also, Sen. J.D. Mesnard pointed out that if the bill passes, landlords could choose to ban dogs completely. The AMA is involved in crafting an amendment allowing property owners to refuse dogs based on size or weight, rather than on breed. Owners tend to ban breeds considered dangerous or aggressive or those with high energy levels, like pit bulls, bulldogs, Rottweilers, German shepherds and sporting breeds.
