Arizona attorney general: Tucson’s law to protect renters violates state law

Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich shot down a Tucson law that bans property owners from considering source of income when choosing renters, which would’ve effectively forced them to accept Section 8 housing vouchers and other assistance. Though his ruling is non-binding, if Tucson doesn’t repeal the ordinance within 30 days, it’ll be punted to the state treasurer and the city won’t get its share of state funds. The article bemoans a 40 percent increase in rents in Tucson since 2017, but doesn’t touch on the root causes of the housing crisis, which at its core is not enough supply.
